about

(From the Album START)
This is a song about being scared at bedtime as a kid of things that go bump in the night. Since it's October, it's a good one for Halloween! It's a keyboard-driven track based on the older horror movies of the 50s. The song features vocals, guitar, keys, bass, & drums.

lyrics

When I was a little kid
There was a creature in my closet
And as I slept upon my bed
There were monsters playing on it

As I drifted off
I'd ask my Dad to leave the lights on
He would laugh
Turn off the switch
And then the light was gone

I could feel the spider webs
Reaching for my face
When the lights were off
My bedroom was a scary place

I wouldn't hang my feet off the bed
'Cuz who knows what was down there
The only sound was in my chest
As my racing heart would pound there

I knew the monsters stood around
Scheming while I slept
And underneath my bed was where
The Creatures always crept

Would they tear off all my toes
To play some silly game
Or would they all just break my legs
Leaving me for lame

I could hear the claws scraping
Underneath my bed
Somehow I knew the Monsters
Were just waiting to be fed

I'd pull the covers higher so they were
Covering up my face
The Boogey Man was in my room
Was he from Outer Space?

It's probably nothing
Just something that I ate
Tell them all to believe me
If I should die
Before I wake

I'm afraid
I'm afraid of the dark
I'm afraid
I'm afraid of the dark

I'm older now and I realize
That it was my 'magination
Everyone knows there's no such thing
As an Alien Nation

But every night when I go to sleep
I pull the covers way up high
There's no creatures in my closet
But maybe they've sent spies

It's probably nothing
Just something that I ate
Tell them all to believe me
If I should die
Before I wake

I'm afraid
I'm afraid of the dark
I'm afraid
I'm afraid of the dark

I'm afraid
I'm afraid of the dark
I'm afraid
I'm afraid of the dark
